A good value for the price. Something to keep in mind when comparing models: this is actually a 4000 Watt (33 Amp) peak / 3500 Watt (29.2 Amp) continuous generator. Most generators are listed by their higher peak wattage. For some reason this one is listed by it’s continuous wattage.
This is a Champion model 46515 recreational generator. You can view the full specs and owners manual at the manufactures website (www.championpowerequipment.com)
I ordered the generator and added priority shipping / package assurance (only a few dollars more) and it arrived six days later.
Assembly / setup was straightforward. After unpacking the generator you attach a spark arrestor if required (2 screws), add motor oil (10W-30 weight), gas (85 octane or higher) and it’s ready to go. My unit had problems starting. The manufacture’s tech support recommend starting at ½ choke as opposed to full on or full off. This worked perfectly and it starts on the first or second pull every time.
It’s a relatively quiet generator. About 50 feet away from it you only hear a dull hum.
As for portability it weighs about 100 pounds dry / shipping weight and 120 pounds with oil and a full tank (4 gallons) of gas. The vendor offers a wheel kit to make it easier to move and I’ve seen them being resold through other websites as well. A small wagon would work too.
For power, the generator has three outlets:
120 volt, 30 amp (3500 Watt) twist lock receptacle (Type L5-30R)
120 volt, 30 amp (3500 Watt) RV receptacle
120 volt, 20 amp (2400 Watt) standard 20 amp outlet (Type 5-20R)
A household extension cord can be plugged into the standard outlet (5-20R) which will allow you draw up to 20 amps / 2400 Watts. This is however only 69% of the generators full 29 amp / 3500 Watt capacity. To draw the full capacity you will need a cord that can plug into the twist lock (L5-30R) or RV receptacle. You can find these online for between $25 - $80.
I was able to power my furnace (oil burner without a blower, about 6 Amps) and several other items.
All said and done, I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others.
