This silver dollar is more than just a coin; it's a symbol of hope and a testament to American resilience. Born from the ashes of World War I, this stunning silver dollar was the result of a nationwide competition to find a design that embodied the nation's yearning for peace. The winning entry, by Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, captured the spirit of the times perfectly.
On the obverse, a youthful Lady Liberty gazes confidently into the future, her tiara echoing the iconic Statue of Liberty. Her flowing hair symbolizes freedom, while the date and mint mark discreetly mark the coin's origin. The reverse features a majestic bald eagle, wings outstretched, clutching an olive branch, a universal symbol of peace and prosperity. The inscription "Peace" above the eagle completes the powerful message.
Minted from 1921 to 1935, the Liberty Peace Dollar was the last US circulating dollar coins struck in pure silver.
